Is There Such a Thing as Indigo Children?
Question
Hello, Rabbi.
Recently I read a study about children in whom there is a phenomenon called Indigo. These are children who have a very strong connection with their spiritual side. I wanted to know whether this really exists according to Judaism, and whether there is a source in the Torah regarding these children. Thank you very much.
Answer
Hello and blessings,
These claims are baseless and have never been proven scientifically.
The claim that there are children who are born with special powers was invented by a medium named Nancy Ann Tappe, who claimed that she had the ability to see special auras in the color Indigo around children with disabilities. Needless to say, this entire claim is based on this woman's personal belief, and it has no solid basis in the real world. No ability has been proven for these children to read minds or know things they could not know.
Regarding your second question,
There is a controversial concept of communication with autistic people, who, according to those who communicate with them, convey messages from higher worlds. It is claimed that autistic people are not connected to the material world as we are, and therefore have a greater connection to the spiritual world. Judaism teaches that autistic people are high souls from previous reincarnations who descended for a final rectification, and therefore they are righteous souls. However, the subject of communicating with them is still disputed, and some say that all the messages come from the communicator's own knowledge and understanding.
With blessings,
Daniel Bels
