When Is the Memorial for the Deceased Held
Question
Hello, my father passed away on the 4th of Elul, 5774. On which day are we supposed to hold the memorial and visit the gravesite? It is not entirely clear to me whether it should be after eleven months or twelve. I would like to know the exact date. Thank you in advance.

Hello and blessings, The year of mourning ends after 12 months from the burial. It has become customary to visit the gravesite at the end of the 11th month from the burial. One also visits the gravesite at the end of the 12th month from the burial. Sephardim visit at the end of 12 months from the passing, and each person should follow his custom. In all other years, all opinions hold that one visits only on the date of passing, not on the anniversary.
