Prayer and Blessings
If one recited Borei Nefashot instead of Al HaMichya, must he recite the blessing again?
Question
By mistake,
I recited the after-blessing Borei Nefashot Rabot instead of Al HaMichya v’Al HaKalkalah. What should I do? Do I need to recite the blessing again? And if I realized the mistake in the middle of Borei Nefashot Rabot, should I stop in the middle, or must I now finish it?
Thank you
Answer
Greetings,
There is no need to recite the blessing again, and therefore if you remembered in the middle of Borei Nefashot, you should finish the blessing and do not recite Al HaMichya.
Sources: This is also written in Yabia Omer, vol. 1 (Orach Chaim, siman 12, letter 7), that although the main halachic view is certainly that the blessing Borei Nefashot Rabot does not exempt one in place of an abridged version of the threefold blessing, in accordance with the early authorities, and this is also the view of most later authorities, nevertheless, since there are dissenting opinions, and we are very concerned for the principle of doubt regarding blessings, to be lenient, therefore if one mistakenly recited Borei Nefashot Rabot instead of an abridged version of the threefold blessing, he is not returned to recite the abridged version of the threefold blessing again.
With blessings,
Hillel Meirs
