If I did not say Modeh Ani the moment I woke up
Question
Hello, honored rabbi!! I wanted to ask: if I wake up from sleep and I am still in bed, and after about 30 or 40 seconds I remember that I did not say Modeh Ani ... and I am still in bed, can I say Modeh Ani? And another question, if possible: when I recite the morning blessings, do I need to say Modeh Ani at the beginning even though I already said it? And what about what is written regarding the blessings on washing hands after using the bathroom, and the washing upon rising from sleep ... do I also recite that in the morning blessings? Is that not a blessing in vain?
Thank you for the answers, honored rabbi!
Answer
Hello and blessings
It is possible to say Modeh Ani even after several seconds have passed since waking up. There is no need to say it twice. After you have gotten up and attended to your bodily needs, you say the two blessings Al Netilat Yadayim and Asher Yatzar, and after you have said them once, you do not repeat them again in the morning blessings. Throughout the entire day, after using the bathroom, one says only the blessing Asher Yatzar.
