Is There a Change in the Prayers for Women on Tisha B'Av?

AA

Question

Hello, On Tisha B'Av, do we recite the passage of the Akeidah in the morning? And besides that, is there any change in the prayers for women?

With blessings and thanks, Hadas

Answer

Hello,

It is permitted to recite the passage of the Akeidah on Tisha B'Av (Aruch HaShulchan, Orach Chayim 554:6). According to the custom of Sephardim, one should add in the blessing of Boneh Yerushalayim: Hashem our God, console the mourners of Zion, etc., in all the prayers of Arvit, Shacharit, and Minchah (Yechaveh Da'at, part 1, siman 44), and the custom of Ashkenazim is to recite it only in the Minchah prayer (Rema, siman 557). According to the custom of Sephardim, one should add Aneinu in all the prayers in the blessing of Shomea Tefillah (Shulchan Aruch, siman 565:3), and the custom of Ashkenazim is to recite it only in the Minchah prayer (Rema there).

With blessings, Hillel Meirs
