How to Use One Oven for Dairy and Meat

AA

Question

With G-d's help, greetings Rabbi. We have one oven at home. I understood that between heating/baking dairy and meat, one must wait 24 hours and that there are additional conditions. If you could please elaborate on what needs to be done in the case of having one oven at home. (And if I heat/bake a parve item say an hour after heating a meaty item in the oven, is that also forbidden?)

Thank you very much.

Answer

Greetings and blessings

You can heat a parve item immediately after heating a meaty item; however, if you wish to eat the parve food together with dairy, it is advisable to preheat the oven on the highest setting for half an hour before heating the parve item.

If one wishes to use one oven for both meat and dairy, one must wait 24 hours between the meat and the dairy, clean the oven properly, and then preheat the oven at the highest temperature for half an hour.

With blessings,

Benjamin Shmueli
