Source of the Phrase "No One Can Touch What is Prepared for Another"

AA

Question

Shalom and good week, I am a Haredi woman from Jerusalem and I have strong and simple faith. My sister and I returned to observance about 13 years ago. In a discussion we had regarding our money that is threatened due to a certain individual, I told her that I am not worried because no one can touch what is prepared for another even by the smallest measure. I would like to know the source of this phrase. Thank you in advance, Shimrit from Jerusalem.

Answer

Shalom,

The source is in Tractate Yoma (page 38, columns 1-2). There it is stated that Ben Azzai said, "In Your name, they will call you" (and Rashi explains, "One should not worry saying that so-and-so will diminish my sustenance, for it is inevitable that in your name, they will come and return to their place"), and "In your place, they will seat you" (and Rashi explains, "This means that they will not give you a gift from their possessions, rather your sustenance is allotted to you from Heaven"), no one can touch what is prepared for another and no kingdom can encroach upon another even by the smallest measure. Please refer there.

Blessings,

Hillel Meirs
