Dreaming of Illness

AA

Question

Hello, esteemed Rabbi, I dreamed about a close person who is ill. What is the meaning of this dream, and what should I do? I would appreciate your response.

Answer

Greetings,

Most likely, the dream has no significant meaning, akin to most dreams today. Nonetheless, it is advisable to say the text of "the good dream" before three people, preferably those who seek your good, or alternatively, you can attend the morning Shacharit prayer and say the following text at the time of the Birkat Kohanim (Priestly Blessing)—try to finish your recitation just as the priests conclude saying "Shalom," so that the public's Amein will apply to your prayer as well) -

Ribono shel olam, ani shelach u'chalomotai shelach, chalom chalamtiv ve'eni yodea ma hu. Yehi ratzon milfanecha Hashem Elokai ve'Elokei avotai, sheyiyu kol chalomotai alai ve'al kol Yisrael letovah, bein shechalamtiv al atzmi u'bein shechalamtiv al acherim, u'bein shechalmu acherim alai, im tovim heim chazkeim ve'amitzeim, ve'yitkaymu bi u'vahem kachalomotav shel Yosef hatzaddik, ve'im tzarichim refuah refaeihem kechizkiyahu melech Yehudah mechalyo, u'keMiryam hanvi'ah mitzar'atah, u'keNa'aman mitzar'ato, u'keMoi marah al yedei Moshe Rabbenu, u'keMoi Yiricho al yedei Elisha. With Hashem's help, no harm will come to him.

Hillel Meirs
