The Meaning of the Three-Dimensional Star of David Symbol [Merkavah] in Kabbalah
Question
Does the three-dimensional Star of David symbol, referred to as the Merkavah, have significance in Judaism? I would like to know what it is and also what its name is in English. I would appreciate any genuine and relevant reading links regarding the term. Thank you.
Answer
Hello and blessings,
The essence of the Star of David and the spirituality it symbolizes according to Kabbalah is well-known. Since there are six points in the pathways of influence from above to below, these are called according to Kabbalah, kindness (chesed), strength (gevurah), beauty (tiferet), eternity (netzach), glory (hod), and foundation (yesod). The one who receives all of them is the seventh measure, which is the measure of kingship - the holy Shechinah for the sake of the Jewish people. The Star of David has six points, and through connecting to the contents hinted at within it, a kind of Jewish Kabbalistic meditation can take place.
When the Star of David appears in a three-dimensional form, its influence is significantly stronger, and a close example is the prayer 'Ana Bekoach' which includes the seven names corresponding to the seven levels mentioned above: Ab"G - Yit"z, Kar"A - Sha"t, Na"G"ad - Ye"ch"s, Ba"T"R - Tze"T"g, Cha"K"B - Ta"N"a, Ya"G"L - Pzi"K, Sha"K"U - Tzi"T. According to Kabbalah, when one recites the prayer including the names three times, the effect of this is multiplied exponentially. Therefore, wearing the three-dimensional Star of David is akin to a triple 'Ana Bekoach' prayer, but of course, the essence lies in connecting to the contents behind this, and for that, one must delve into these topics within the appropriate framework.
Additionally, recent revelations indicate that the energies flowing within the human body are arranged in the pattern of the three-dimensional Star of David, and connecting to these energies brings a person mental peace and harmony among the different spiritual forces within oneself. However, naturally, the connection to this and the depth of it stems from the order of the Sefirot, which are the root of all creation. Best of luck - Menashe Israel. Relevant links that do not deviate from the truth: Some explain the concept according to Hindu doctrines and beliefs, but regarding Jews, the significance I have written is the correct one. Our souls were derived from the world of the Sefirot - the realm of emanation, and that is where we must connect.
