Is Breast Milk Dairy or Pareve?

AA

Question

Hello Rabbi, is breast milk considered dairy or pareve? Can I feed my baby meat and then give him breast milk, or do I need to wait? Thank you, Reuven.

Answer

Greetings,

Breast milk is classified as pareve. Nevertheless, it is prohibited to cook meat together with breast milk due to the concern of appearance (Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah 95:4).

It is permissible to feed a baby meat and then to give him breast milk afterward.

Best regards,

Hillel Meirs
