Is it permissible to vacation in a hotel during a year of mourning?

Question

My mother is in mourning for her mother. I would like to know if she is allowed to vacation in a hotel. It has already been 9 months since the passing. I would appreciate a quick answer. Thank you, Tovit.

Answer

Hello and blessings,

It is permissible to vacation in a hotel during a year of mourning, provided that she does not participate in evenings of song, or any program that includes music. Additionally, she should not go on tours with the whole group. (Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De'ah, end of section 385; Chazon Ovadiah, Aveilut, volume 2, page 278).
