Until What Time Can One Recite Hallel?

AA

Question

Dear Rabbi, if I did not say Hallel in the morning, is it permitted to say Hallel during the day?? Thank you very much

Answer

Shalom Rabbi,

One can recite Hallel until sunset (Talmud Megillah 20b, Biur Halacha 682:2, and Chazon Ovadiah Chanukah, page 250).

However, according to the opinion of Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef zt"l, Sephardic women are exempt from reciting Hallel during Chanukah. A Sephardic woman who wishes to say Hallel can do so, but she should not make a blessing either at the beginning or at the end (see Responsa Yabia Omer, Volume 6, Orach Chaim 41, and Chazon Ovadiah there, page 250).

Happy Chanukah,

Hillel Meirs
