Prayer and Blessings
Is It Permissible to Recite the Blessings of Shema After the Time for Prayer Has Ended?
Question
Morning prayer before midday and after the time for prayer has ended.
What is the significance of praying at such a time? How serious is it?
In such a prayer, do we say the blessing of the luminaries?
Thank you very much
Answer
Greetings,
1. Ideally, one should pray the morning service by the end of four hours from the start of the day. If you were not able to do so, it is permissible, retroactively, to pray until midday, and you will receive reward for a prayer offered at the wrong time (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 89:1).
However, if one had the opportunity to pray before the end of four hours and deliberately delayed without a valid reason, there is a debate whether in this case they can still pray until midday. Therefore, to avoid any concern, it is advisable to make a condition before the prayer, stating that if she is obligated to perform this prayer, she is praying as an obligation; if not, her intention is to pray as a Nedavah (voluntary offering) (Mishnah Berurah 89:6, and *Responsa Yichave Da'at* part 7, section 15).
2. It is not permissible to recite the blessing of Yotzer Or and other blessings of Shema after the time for prayer has ended (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 58:6).
With blessings,
