Should Clothes Worn During Mourning Be Discarded?
Question
BS"D 05.05.2013 1. I am a woman mourning my mother since Friday, and I wanted to ask, after the mourning period (shiva), do I need to discard all the clothes I wore to the funeral and during shiva, or just the torn garment? 2. How long after shiva am I allowed to watch television? 3. How long after shiva am I allowed to get a haircut and shave? 4. Is it possible to get a phone number for further inquiries?
Answer
Shalom u'vracha
1. Only the garment in which you performed the tearing (keriah).
2. You may watch the Hidabroot channel immediately.
3. After shiva, women may cut their hair. Men should wait until thirty days have passed and until they are admonished about their growing beards.
4. We would be happy to answer you further on any question.
