Does a Pregnant Woman Need to Fast on Tisha B'Av?
Question
What is the law regarding a pregnant woman and the fast of Tisha B'Av? Thank you
Answer
Shalom, A pregnant woman is obligated to fast on Tisha B'Av (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 554:5; Rema 554:1). However, if she has any ailment, even one that is not life-threatening, she does not need to fast. It is advisable to ask a rabbi in any case of illness, G-d forbid (Responsa Yechave Da'at, Vol. 1, 55, s.v. B'Pesachim). In a year when Tisha B'Av falls on Shabbat and is postponed to Sunday, it is possible to be more lenient - see https://www.hidabroot.org/question/212684 Blessings, Hillel Meirs
