Is a Blessing Required When Replacing a Mezuzah That Has Fallen?
Question
I would like to ask, when a mezuzah has fallen, is it necessary to recite a blessing when re-affixing it?
Thank you very much!
Answer
Hello,
No blessing is to be recited again.
Sources: Responsa Yabia Omer, Part 3 (Yoreh De'ah, Siman 17, Section 11) and Sefer Hilchot Olam, Part 8 (page 271). However, in the book Ashrei Ha'ish, Part Yoreh De'ah, Part 2 (Chapter 63, Section 7), it is brought in the name of Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, zt"l, that a mezuzah that has fallen is considered a Hefsek (break) and one returns to recite a blessing.
