Women
Is it permissible for a pregnant woman to go to a cemetery or the graves of the righteous?
Question
My sister-in-law became pregnant through IVF and had quadruplets. After consulting a Rabbi, it was decided to reduce the number to only two due to health risks. She is now in week 12, and thank God, in another two weeks after the reduction, the risks will lessen. She wants to hold a Se'udah Hodayah (thanksgiving meal) at the grave of a righteous individual. I am also pregnant and wanted to know if it is permissible for me to go, as I have been told in the past that a pregnant woman is not allowed to go to cemeteries or the graves of the righteous?
Answer
It is permissible to go to the graves of the righteous who are buried alone, such as the grave of Rabbi Meir Ba'al HaNes in Tiberias, or the grave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron. Good luck, and congratulations to all of you, Menashe Yisrael
