What Blessing is Said Over Rice Paper Filled with Cheese?

AA

Question

Hello and blessings, what blessing is said over rice paper filled with cheese? The rice paper does not have a significant flavor and serves more as a thin wrapping, with the filling being the main component.

Thank you

Answer

Hello,

One should recite the blessing of “Shehakol”, because the rice paper is subordinate to the cheese. The halacha is (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 202:1) that whenever there is a primary food and a subordinate one (defined as something of lesser significance), the blessing is made on the primary food, which exempts the subordinate food regardless of whether the blessing was made before or after.

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
