Is there a week this year with constraints on wearing laundered clothing?
Question
Is there a week this year with a 'week that occurs during it' that prohibits wearing laundered clothing, etc., due to Tisha B'Av falling on Motzei Shabbat? Thank you in advance.
Answer
Hello,
This year, there is no week that occurs during it, therefore it is permitted for Sephardim to get haircuts and do laundry up until Tisha B'Av (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 558:4). However, on the eve of Shabbat Chazon, it is appropriate to be stringent and not get a haircut (Chazon Ovadia, The Four Fast Days, p. 312).
It is important to emphasize that according to the Sephardic custom, the practice of refraining from eating meat is not dependent on a week that occurs during it, but begins from the start of the month of Av (ibid, p. 313), and therefore even this year, when there is no week that occurs during it, one should be careful.
