Traveling Abroad During the Three Weeks

AA

Question

Dear Rabbi, hello. We are a family with two children wanting to take a trip abroad this summer. My husband is refusing to travel during the period known as the Three Weeks. However, flight tickets during this time are significantly cheaper than those afterwards. Is it permissible to fly and spend time abroad? What is allowed and what is forbidden to do there? We do not intend to go to parties or swim at the beach. Is it permissible to shop? (referring to clothing) I would greatly appreciate your response.

Answer

Hello and blessings

It is permissible to travel for a vacation during the days of the Three Weeks, especially before Rosh Chodesh Av.

The very act of traveling abroad is allowed only if you will not achieve the same benefit from a vacation here.

It is permissible to go shopping, but it is forbidden to wear new clothes during this time.

Best regards,

Benjamin Shmueli
