Question

Hello, esteemed Rabbi,
Could I please receive a detailed list of all the days when confession is not said in the Shema at bedtime?
I understand that this is related to tachnun, but I am not sure which days fall under this and I do not fully understand it.
Thank you very much.

Answer

Greetings,

The following are the days when confession is not said: the month of Nisan, Pesach Sheni (Second Passover), Lag BaOmer, from the beginning of the month of Sivan until the 12th day inclusive, Tisha B'Av, Tu B'Av, the eve of Rosh Hashanah and the eve of Yom Kippur, from the 11th of Tishrei until the 2nd of Cheshvan, the eight days of Chanukah, Tu B'Shvat, the 14th and 15th of Adar I and II, and Rosh Chodesh (the New Month) (short Shulchan Aruch, Yalkut Yosef, Siman 104, Seif 36). Naturally, confession is also not said at all on Shabbat, Yom Tov, and Chol Hamoed.

Best regards,

Hillel Meirs
