Question

Who wrote the Bible and when?

Answer

The Bible is composed of three parts. The Torah consists of the five books of Moses, which were written by Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our Teacher) based on what Hashem (the Holy One, Blessed be He) conveyed. The Prophets contain the prophecies that were actually delivered by the prophets of Israel, with only those prophecies relevant to future generations being recorded.

Sometimes the prophet himself wrote, and at times, those who lived in the generations following them recorded their prophecies. The Writings were also written under divine inspiration but not as prophecies to be spoken, rather just to be written.

Each of these texts was authored by different individuals; for example, the Book of Psalms was written by King David, among others. For further reading, one may refer to the book "Am Segula" by Rabbi Avigdor Miller, which elaborates extensively on the entire Jewish history, including who wrote what and when.
