Interpretation of Breaking a Glass

AA

Question

Hello, honored rabbi. I know that when a glass is broken, it is a sign of good luck... But when a glass breaks and one gets hurt from it, it is said to be a sign of something else...

Yesterday, while washing the dishes, I broke a glass in my hand. I injured my finger on my right hand, went to the hospital, and they stitched it up; it has become serious. Does this truly have any interpretation, or is it just superstitions or mere coincidence?

Answer

Hello and blessings,

There are no coincidences in the world at all, and certainly every financial or physical damage comes from Hashem. Each person should reflect on their own actions and consider what Hashem is trying to convey with this, and pray that Hashem forgives their sins through these sufferings.

However, one should not attribute the breaking of a glass to either a good sign or a bad sign, God forbid; it means nothing at all.

Best wishes,

Binyamin Shmueli
