Pregnancy Without Mikvah

AA

Question

A woman became pregnant through intimate relations without immersing in the mikvah. She is aware of the importance of having children in a state of purity and deeply regrets her actions. She is constantly in fear throughout her pregnancy. Her question is whether there is a way to atone for this (through prayer, donation, or another immersion).

Answer

Greetings,

She should accept upon herself from now on to never engage in relations without immersion in the mikvah. Of course, she should also stop having relations until after the immersion. She should cease relations now and thoroughly wash the vaginal area with warm water as much as possible, and afterward perform a hefsek taharah (a pause to ensure purity) and count seven clean days before immersing as required.

If she does this, she will merit a complete atonement, with God’s help.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Shmueli
