Why We Ask for Mashiach on Rosh Hashanah

Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits

At first glance, Rosh Hashanah seems like the last time to ask for Mashiach. These are the days of work, struggle, and earning, while the era of redemption will remove challenge and the evil inclination. We ask for Mashiach not to escape hardship, but out of devotion to Hashem’s honor. We are willing to give up even our highest opportunities to earn if it means that Hashem will be revealed to all humanity, His Name sanctified, and the purpose of creation made clear once and for all.
