The Mysterious Weeping Stone of the Western Wall
A story of the mystical Weeping Stone: Discover the enigmatic source of its tears and why it is a favored place of prayer for kabbalists.

In the heart of the Western Wall lies a stone that weeps each night at midnight, releasing slow, deliberate droplets. Remarkably, this stone aligns directly with the Foundation Stone, the place where the Holy of Holies once housed the Ark of the Covenant. Standing here, one is just 90 meters from that sacred center, the closest point permissible to approach according to Jewish law.
Kabbalists, rebbes, and deeply devout individuals gather at midnight to pray beside this weeping stone, where an eternal flame flickers continuously, day and night.
“I’ve often heard from site workers,” shares Yoni Cohen, a guide at the Western Wall, “that during times of tragedy, such as the horrific Line 2 bombing, the stone drenched itself with tears, leaving the entire floor soaked.”
Rabbi Meir Yehuda Getz, of blessed memory, the revered Rabbi of the Western Wall, built a synagogue nearby. There, daily sunrise prayer services are held with a dedicated quorum. The source of the tears remains a mystery. Some experts suggest they originate from a cistern within the Temple Mount, but the true explanation remains elusive.
