“Out of Love for This Place”: Fauda Star Idan Amadi Returns to IDF Reserve Duty
More than two years after being critically wounded in Gaza, the singer and actor quietly resumed reserve service following a long rehabilitation
Idan Amadi (Instagram)Idan Amadi, the Israeli singer, actor, and star of the hit television series Fauda, has returned to IDF reserve duty for the first time since being critically wounded during fighting in Gaza. The return took place several months ago and comes more than two years after his injury.
Amadi addressed the reports in an Instagram Story, confirming that he had resumed service but chose to keep it private. “Honestly, I am embarrassed by the publicity,” he wrote. “It is true, a few months ago I returned to reserve service. I chose to keep this to my family and friends, because like me, there are many who were wounded and returned to serve out of love for this place and the people who live here.”
In January 2024, Amadi was seriously injured during operational activity in Gaza, in a deadly incident that claimed the lives of several members of his unit. He was evacuated to Sheba Medical Center in critical condition, sedated and on a ventilator, after suffering shrapnel wounds to his upper body and significant injuries to his face and torso. At the time, his condition was described as serious but stable, and his family appealed to the public to pray for his recovery.
His recovery was long and gradual. Amadi underwent surgeries, medical treatments, and extended physical rehabilitation before being able to return to daily life. The process stretched over many months and required a slow rebuilding of strength, with no shortcuts along the way.
Only later did he begin to reappear publicly. In January 2025, Amadi released a new album, Superman, which dealt directly with trauma, injury, and recovery. The album marked a return to music after his hospitalization and was followed by major performances, including a large concert at Tel Aviv’s Park Hayarkon. During this period, he was also chosen to lead a campaign focused on social and community initiatives, with an emphasis on the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.
Throughout the early months of the war, Amadi had been seen in footage from the field, taking part in engineering operations, dedicating missions to fallen friends, and marking moments of remembrance during combat.
He ended his Instagram message by bringing attention to his main purpose of returning. “The most important thing right now is the return of Ran Gvili, may his memory be a blessing,” Amadi wrote. “Remember him. We must not forget. We leave no one behind. Am Yisrael Chai.”
