The resurfaced posts, first reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon and later reported by the New York Post, have intensified scrutiny surrounding Duwaji’s past online activity. The allegations come after earlier reports that she liked social media posts tied to Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel and posts claiming the rape allegations from that attack were a “mass hoax.”
According to the report, Duwaji reposted an image in September 2017 of Palestinian militant Leila Khaled, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who participated in airplane hijackings in 1969 and 1970. The image included a quote attributed to Khaled: “If it does good for my cause, I’d be happy to accept death.”
Other resurfaced posts reportedly included images praising Palestinian “freedom fighters” and references to militant figures tied to Palestinian groups. One reposted image featured a Bangladeshi postage stamp declaring, “We salute the valiant freedom fighters of Palestine.”
Additional posts cited in the report criticized American military actions abroad. In one repost, U.S. soldiers fighting in overseas conflicts were described as “fightin in imperialist wars are not brave nor are they fighting for anyone’s freedom,” accusing them of “mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians” to maintain “American hegemony.”
Another post blamed Western actors for the rise of Al-Qaeda, stating: “You can’t blame muslims for terrorism because they didn’t construct, fund nor train Al-Qaeda.” The same message concluded: “White People did that too.”
The report also cited earlier posts in which Duwaji reportedly wrote that Tel Aviv “shouldn’t exist in the first place,” calling the city’s residents “occupiers.”
The latest revelations follow earlier reporting that Duwaji had liked an Instagram post on the day of Hamas’ October 7 attack that portrayed the assault as “resistance.” Separate reports also said she liked a post claiming allegations of Hamas rapes during the attack were fabricated.
Mayor Mamdani responded to the controversy by distancing his wife from his political work. In a statement cited by U.S. media outlets, he said: “My wife is the love of my life and she’s also a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall.”
The posts reportedly date back to when Duwaji was living in the Middle East as a teenager and in her early twenties, according to the outlets that reviewed the material.
