IDF: No Systemic Failure After Direct Rocket Hits in Dimona and Arad
Preliminary probe after a massive barrage finds a rare chain of circumstances behind the two strikes; air defenses still intercepted over 92% of threats.

Despite the intensity of the barrage and the damage on the ground, the IDF stressed that the Air Defense Array continues to deliver exceptionally high performance, with an interception rate of over 92%.
According to the probe, both hits resulted from interception attempts that did not succeed. The IAF Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. Gilad Keinan, clarified that this was not a systemic failure but a complex confluence of circumstances. In his words, "There is a person and a machine here, and I think our air defense array manages to get the most out of these systems. We have a learning enemy, and we are also learning and debriefing." He also emphasized, "Although the incidents were close in time, there is no connection between the two events, and there is no new or unfamiliar threat here."
According to the IDF, the interception failure was defined as a statistical event that does not indicate a systemic malfunction or negligence. It was also determined that there was no professional connection between the two cases, despite their proximity in time and area, and that no miscalculation or intentional human error was identified. Keinan added, "Two previous rockets that reached the Dimona area were intercepted in the same way. There is no professional link between the events; there was a chain of glitches not necessarily stemming from the actions of a controller or operator. There is no system failure here."

In this incident, 53 people were injured: one in serious condition, one moderate, 29 lightly, and 22 treated for shock. In Arad, the rocket hit a neighborhood characterized by high-rise buildings, home to a large community of Gur Hasidim. The number of casualties there was higher: 7 seriously wounded, 22 moderate, 55 lightly, and 4 suffering from anxiety. The findings indicate that in both events "Rader" missiles were used, a model well known to the defense array.
The commander of the Home Front Command, Maj. Gen. Shay Kalper, addressed the casualty figures and emphasized that a significant portion of those injured were not in protected spaces at the time of the explosion. According to him, the alerts functioned as required and were delivered through all channels, including on kosher phones, on television, and via the siren systems.
