A young Israeli was detained the day before yesterday at the airport in the Egyptian city of Taba after praying with a tallit and putting on tefillin. This was reported today (Tuesday) by Ynet. According to the report, Egyptian police prevented him from boarding the flight, and only after the intervention of Israeli officials was he released.

According to the report, Israelis were using the Taba airport to fly to Greece. A young man who witnessed the incident told Ynet: "While Israelis were waiting for the plane, a young Israeli took out a tallit and tefillin. A military officer lunged at him, said it is forbidden to pray, and demanded his passport. The young man was detained, taken away, and did not board the flight".

"There was another incident in which a Charedi man sitting next to me in the terminal was reading from a volume of Gemara and moving his head. Suddenly, an Egyptian security officer lunged at him and said: "It is forbidden to pray in this terminal. Give me your passport immediately". As noted, after the intervention of Israeli officials, the young man was ultimately released and allowed to board a different flight.
