The living room is the heart of the home. It is where we host guests, relax at the end of the day, and spend time with family. Because it is used so often, it tends to collect more mess than almost anywhere else. Crumbs hide between the cushions, dust settles on furniture, stains build up on covers, and drawers quietly fill up before we even notice.
So how do you get your living room truly Pesach ready?
Start With Cushions and Covers
Begin with the sofa cushions and covers. Remove every cover and check the washing instructions carefully. Covers that are machine washable should be cleaned on a gentle cycle. For those that are not, give them a thorough vacuum and allow them to air out well, preferably in the sun.
Do not forget the pillows themselves. Even if they look clean, they collect dust over time. Vacuum them well to remove buildup. For a fresher scent and to help neutralize odors, sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the fabric before vacuuming.

Clean the Sofa Thoroughly
Once the covers are taken care of, move on to the sofa itself. Even a sofa that looks clean can hold a surprising amount of hidden dirt. Use a vacuum to reach deep into the crevices where crumbs and dust collect.
If you notice stains, use a gentle upholstery cleaner and wipe carefully with a damp cloth. A slow, thorough clean makes a big difference and helps restore the sofa’s appearance.
Refresh the Coffee Table
The coffee table is one of the most used surfaces in the living room. Instead of a quick wipe, empty it completely and clean it properly.
Use a cleaner that matches the surface, whether wood, glass, or stone. Pay attention to corners, legs, and less visible areas where dust tends to build up. Finish with a dry cloth or paper towel to leave the surface clean and streak free.
Tackle the Drawers
Living room drawers often become a catchall for everything that does not have a clear place. Remotes, papers, cables, and random items can quickly turn into clutter.
Empty each drawer completely and sort everything into three simple groups: keep, throw away, and move elsewhere. Before returning anything, wipe down the inside of the drawer.
To keep things organized going forward, use small boxes or dividers so items stay in place and are easy to find.

Bring the Room Back Together
Once everything is clean, air out the living room well. Fresh air makes a noticeable difference and helps remove any lingering odors.
Arrange the pillows neatly, return items to their proper places, and enjoy the feeling of a clean, refreshed space. With a little effort, your living room can feel calm, organized, and ready for Pesach.
