Nine IDF troops wounded in southern Lebanon; Israel says it killed Hezbollah’s longtime 'mouthpiece'

Two IDF officers were seriously and moderately wounded by an anti-tank missile in southern Lebanon. In a separate incident, an officer was seriously wounded and six soldiers were moderately wounded by rocket fire. The IDF says it killed Ali Hassan Shaib, an Al-Manar 'journalist' it calls a "Radwan Force" operative who exposed IDF positions.

It was cleared for publication tonight (Motza'ei Shabbat) that one officer was seriously wounded and another officer was moderately wounded after an anti-tank missile was fired during a clash involving an IDF force in southern Lebanon. In another incident overnight, an officer was seriously wounded and six soldiers were moderately wounded as a result of rocket fire. All the troops were evacuated to hospitals for medical treatment, and their families were notified.

Meanwhile, the IDF Spokesperson said the IDF today struck and killed Ali Hassan Shaib, a terrorist in the intelligence unit of Hezbollah's "Radwan Force." Shaib operated under the guise of a journalist for the Al-Manar network and, for 20 years, served as a mouthpiece for Hezbollah. He also consistently exposed the locations of IDF forces operating in southern Lebanon and along the border, and maintained ongoing contact with additional terrorists in the "Radwan Force" unit.

The IDF added that the terrorist worked to incite against IDF forces and Israeli civilians, serving as a conduit for disseminating Hezbollah propaganda. Even during Operation "Lion's Roar," he continued his activity and reported on the locations of IDF forces operating in southern Lebanon.

In addition, the IDF Spokesperson revealed that during an operation by Givati Brigade troops in southern Lebanon, our forces located an active underground Hezbollah combat area near a church in the village of al-Khiam. The forces uncovered and identified three shafts that were recently constructed. The IDF noted that about a year and a half ago a shaft was found at the same entrance and was handled and cleared of weapons and terrorists. Since then, Hezbollah worked to restore the site.

The Air Force also operated overnight (between Friday and Shabbat), striking dozens of Hezbollah infrastructure targets in Lebanon. Among the targets struck: weapons depots, launchers, military buildings, and additional terror infrastructure.

In Beirut, Ayoub Hassin Yaakub, a senior figure in Hezbollah's Communications Unit, was eliminated. In the past, as a senior official in the Rocketry Unit, he played a central role in managing fire and took part in directing fire and launches toward the State of Israel throughout Operation "Northern Arrows." In addition, Yasser Muhammad Mabarak, another senior figure in the Communications Unit who simultaneously held a role in Hezbollah's Rocketry Unit, was eliminated.
