Reuters reported this morning (Monday) that the terror group Hezbollah has lost thousands of militants since the campaign began on March 2. That contrasts with official figures from Lebanon’s Health Ministry, which say about 2,600 people have been killed.

According to three sources cited in the report, including two described as senior figures in the organization, there is a gap between the numbers. They said, "the ministry’s figures do not include many of the group’s casualties, and the organization still does not have a full picture." Hezbollah rejects the claim and insists the official death toll also includes its members.

At the same time, accounts from the field point to the intensity of the fighting, especially around Bint Jbeil — considered a symbol for Hezbollah and located about 5 kilometers from the border. A commander in the group quoted in the report said there are "dozens of operatives who reached the frontline town to fight to the death," adding that their bodies have not yet been located.

Alongside the fighting, Hezbollah claims that continuing the confrontation with Israel is also intended to influence the agreement between Iran and the United States. According to more than a dozen figures in the organization, "there is an opportunity to reverse the negative trend" by "aligning with Tehran." Their assessment is that involvement in the fighting will place Lebanon at the heart of contacts between the United States and Iran and allow Iranian pressure to achieve a "more credible and longer" cease-fire.
