Skip the processed snacks and learn how to make simple, nutritious crackers at home with wholesome ingredients and perfect crunch every time

aA

When you take a look at the ingredient list on store-bought crackers, you’ll often find processed ingredients, high amounts of salt, and low-quality oils. It makes you pause and wonder whether it’s really worth having another one.

These crackers, on the other hand, you can snack on freely, without the need to count calories. They’re healthy, delicious, and incredibly easy to make.

Homemade Healthy Crackers

Ingredients:
1 cup whole spelt flour (or regular whole wheat flour)
½ cup rolled oats
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons flax seeds (ground or whole)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
½ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons olive oil
½ cup water (or as needed)

Optional toppings: za’atar, oregano, granulated garlic, or sunflower seeds

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients: flour, oats, sesame seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, and salt. Add the olive oil and begin mixing.

Gradually add the water and knead until you get a uniform dough that is easy to work with and not too sticky. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water; if it’s too sticky, add a bit more flour.

Transfer the dough to a work surface and roll it out very thin (about 1/16 inch thick, roughly 2 mm) between two sheets of parchment paper.

Remove the top sheet and score the dough into strips or squares using a knife or pizza cutter (no need to fully separate them).

Bake for about 15–20 minutes, until the crackers are golden and crisp.

Remove from the oven, let cool, and break along the scored lines.

Store in an airtight container for up to one week.

Serving Ideas:

Serve with cheese, avocado, tahini, hummus, or simply enjoy on their own alongside a cup of tea, for a satisfying and wholesome snack.
