The Torah world is mourning the passing of the great gaon Rabbi Rachamim Eliyahu Mazuz zt"l, one of the heads of the yeshiva Kiseh Rachamim and president of the Harav Matzliach Institute, who passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness at the age of 78.

Rabbi Mazuz was the younger brother of Maran, the rosh yeshiva Rabbi Meir Mazuz zt"l, and of the rosh yeshiva Rabbi Tzemach Mazuz, shlita.

Widely known as the “Gaon HaPosek,” Rabbi Mazuz became one of the leading halachic authorities of his generation, continuing the legacy of his father and teaching generations of students over many decades.

Continuing His Father’s Legacy

Rabbi Mazuz immigrated from Tunisia to Israel following the murder of his father, Rabbi Matzliach Mazuz zt"l.

He devoted much of his life to preserving and spreading his father’s Torah teachings. He edited and published many of his father’s works, including Shu”t Ish Matzliach and Matzmiach Yeshuah, while also overseeing the publications of the institute he led.

He became especially well known for the Ish Matzliach glosses on the Mishnah Berurah, which gained broad recognition throughout the Torah world.

Even in his younger years, Rabbi Mazuz was already deeply involved in Torah editing and scholarship. Among the works he edited were Vayomer Yitzchak for Rabbi Yitzhak Bahonik and Mishpat Katuv by Rabbi Yisrael Zaiton.

A Life Dedicated to Torah

For more than 40 years, Rabbi Mazuz led the kollel of Kiseh Rachamim with strength and dedication.

He regularly delivered advanced shiurim on Shaar HaMelech and complex sugyot throughout Shas, studying them deeply alongside the classic commentaries.

His precise and distinctive writing style became highly respected in the world of halacha.

Students and colleagues describe him as a figure completely devoted to Torah learning, halachic clarity, and the transmission of tradition to future generations.

A Lasting Legacy

Rabbi Mazuz leaves behind a distinguished family of children and sons in law who continue his path and unique legacy in Torah and halacha.
