This was reported today (Tuesday) by N12 News.
According to the report, which relies on the global organization’s weather forecast, this climate phenomenon could bring unprecedented waves of extreme weather. An "El Niño" event is expected to influence temperature and precipitation patterns around the world.
Jeff Berardelli, a meteorologist quoted by Euronews, said: "I think we will see weather events that we have never seen in modern history."
"El Niño" is a periodic, natural warming of regions in the Pacific Ocean that changes weather patterns worldwide. The WMO’s seasonal climate update shows that sea-surface temperatures are rising rapidly. The phenomenon typically occurs once every 2 to 7 years and lasts about 9 to 12 months.
"El Niño" has significant global impacts. Among other effects, it often brings droughts and floods to different parts of Africa, extreme winter storms in the United States, and intense heat waves across wide regions of the world.
