A suspect who planned to carry out a terror attack during Jerusalem Day events was arrested today (Thursday) in a joint operation by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and undercover Border Police officers from the Jerusalem unit. The arrest took place in the Abu Tor neighborhood of East Jerusalem, following intelligence received by the Shin Bet that prompted the immediate deployment of forces.
According to the police, once the intelligence on the suspect came in, an undercover Border Police team from Jerusalem was dispatched for a targeted operation in the area where he was located. Forces were rushed to the scene after an indication that the suspect might try to carry out an attack during Jerusalem Day events.
The operation focused on a car-wash compound in Abu Tor, where the suspect was present at the time. The undercover team, operating covertly, arrived on site, made the arrest, and took control of the suspect without any injuries.
The detained suspect was transferred to the Shin Bet for further questioning. Police said, "The close coordination between undercover Border Police officers and the Israel Security Agency continues to be a key factor in thwarting terror and safeguarding the security of Israel’s citizens, and the security forces will continue to act resolutely against any threat."
