One of the biggest questions for parents of babies around nine months old is how to offer a snack or small meal that is nutritious, easy to eat, and free from unnecessary or unhealthy ingredients. At this stage, babies are exploring different textures, learning to grasp food with their hands, and developing taste preferences. At the same time, their digestive systems are still sensitive and benefit from simple, wholesome foods.

A baked oatmeal snack is an excellent option. It is soft, natural, free from sugar, eggs, and dairy, and made from accessible ingredients that support healthy body and brain development. It can be prepared in advance, frozen, and confidently offered as part of a balanced daily diet.

Who Is It Suitable For?

This recipe is suitable for babies aged nine months and older who have already been gradually introduced to ingredients such as oats, tahini, and fruits, and who have no known sensitivities to these foods.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup finely rolled whole oats

  • 1 ripe banana

  • 1/2 apple, finely grated

  • 1/2 carrot, finely grated

  • 1/4 cup whole raw tahini

  • A small pinch of cinnamon

  • Water, as needed

Instructions

Mash the banana and mix it with the tahini until smooth.

Add the finely grated apple and carrot, then add the cinnamon and oats. Mix thoroughly.

Gradually add water until you achieve a soft but stable batter.

Shape the mixture into small finger-sized cookie sticks that are easy for a baby to hold.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20 minutes, or until the snacks are set and lightly golden.

Allow them to cool completely before serving.

Tips for Success

The texture should remain soft and easy to mash between your fingers.

For younger babies, you can slightly reduce the baking time to keep the snack softer.

Do not add honey or any other sweeteners.

The snacks can be frozen in an airtight container and thawed as needed.

Why Is It Good for Babies?

Oats provide steady energy and support healthy digestion.

Bananas and apples offer natural sweetness and help promote balanced bowel function.

Carrots supply beta carotene, an important nutrient for overall growth and development.

Tahini provides healthy fats and calcium, both of which are essential for brain and bone development.

A small amount of cinnamon enhances the flavor and may help support balanced blood sugar levels.
