German police (Credit: shutterstock)Authorities in Germany revealed that they located a pre-recorded video claiming responsibility for an attack that was never carried out, and that investigators believe was planned for the second anniversary of the October 7 massacre. The video was found among the belongings of one of the suspects accused of belonging to a European Hamas terror network.
The details were disclosed by Germany’s federal prosecutor general, Jens Rommel, during an annual press conference held this morning (Tuesday) in the city of Karlsruhe. According to him, the findings of the investigation strengthen the assessment that Hamas was working to build terror infrastructure in Europe and that a significant attack had been planned to mark two years since the terror assault the organization carried out in southern Israel.
According to investigative sources, since last fall, nine suspects have been arrested on suspicion of membership in Hamas and support for its activities. Authorities attribute to them involvement in transporting weapons and storing arms and ammunition for the organization, activity that is suspected to have taken place at least since the summer of 2025.
The first three suspects in the case were arrested on October 1, 2025, just days before the anniversary of the October 7 attack. As the investigation continued, six additional suspects were arrested in Germany and other European countries. The most recent arrest was carried out at the end of May in Denmark, following earlier arrests in Britain and Cyprus.
The federal prosecutor’s office said that one of the defendants is suspected of storing weapons in the city of Vienna, Austria. At the same time, investigators are continuing to examine the scope of the network’s activity and the connections among its members in different European countries.
At the end of March, Berlin’s higher regional court sentenced four members of a Hamas sabotage cell to prison terms of several years. The court determined that the four had acted on behalf of the organization and searched for weapons depots in Germany, Poland, Denmark, and Bulgaria.
The judges convicted the defendants of membership in a foreign terrorist organization, in a ruling considered groundbreaking. It was the first time a high court in Germany determined that Hamas constitutes a foreign terrorist organization under German criminal law.
Against the backdrop of these developments, Israel’s embassy in Berlin responded sharply: "Hamas did not only hand out candy in Berlin on October 7, 2023. It was also preparing terror in Germany and Europe: weapons shipments, confession videos, an international network. The Berlin district court calls them by their name: terrorists. Their goal remains the same — in Israel as here: to murder innocent people."
