Fox News host Jesse Watters has found himself at the center of a public backlash in recent days after referring to Israel’s position with the phrase "the Jewish Question" during a televised discussion about contacts between the United States and Iran and their implications for the regional arena.

The incident took place on the program "The Five," where panelists were discussing the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran and the American administration’s efforts to reduce escalation in the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon. During the conversation about the emerging deal and American pressure to restrain continued Israeli activity in Lebanon, Watters said that "the Jewish Question" was expected to be one of the central issues surrounding the deal. In practice, he was referring to public opinion in Israel and the desire, in his words, to see Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu adopt a tougher line in Lebanon.

The remark drew an immediate response from Jewish Fox News commentator Jessica Tarlov, who interrupted him and made clear that the term "Jews" should not be used when the intention is to mean Israel. "Just say Israel," she told him. Watters did not retract his statement and responded with a laugh: "Are you policing my speech?" Tarlov replied that she was simply giving him "Jewish advice."

The criticism that followed Watters’ comments stems from the heavy historical meaning of the phrase he used. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Nazi phrase "the Final Solution to the Jewish Question" was used to describe the plan for the systematic extermination of Europe’s Jews during the Holocaust.

On social media, the response was swift. One user called Watters "ignorant and uneducated," writing that while using the term "Jews" instead of "Israel" is itself problematic, using the phrase "the Jewish Question" — which, according to the commenter, is associated with 1940s Germany — is "unfathomable." Another user criticized what he described as the relative silence of Jewish organizations, arguing that "once again the Jewish communities do nothing," while a similar comment aimed at other groups would have sparked "endless outrage."
