Lebanese Parliament Speaker Rejects Israel Deal: "We Will Not Implement This Agreement"

Reports from Lebanon this morning (Monday) said the Lebanese army is set to deploy במהלך היום בכפרים אל- ע'רביה ופרון, תחת פיקוח ישיר של מפקד סנטקום האמריקני, האדמירל בראד קופר, שצפוי להגיע ללבנון בתום ביקור היום בישראל. The Lebanese army will take control of territory where the IDF had operated against Hezbollah infrastructure.

At the same time, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who heads the Shiite Amal movement, addressed the agreement with Israel in an interview with the newspaper "Al-Akhbar," which is affiliated with Hezbollah: "We will not implement this agreement. It is ten times worse than the May 17 Agreement of 1983. The most serious danger in the agreement is that it could open the door to division and conflict among the Lebanese themselves, in a way that serves the Israeli occupation. These are 'dictates,' not an agreement that protects Lebanon’s rights."

At the same time, Berri added: "We will not be dragged into any street protests or responses that could be exploited to pull the country into chaos and internal conflict. The ministers of the Amal movement will take part in the government meetings where the agreement is discussed and will present their position through the institutions of the state.
