IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held an intelligence, operational, strategic, and multi-front situational assessment today (Monday) to mark 1,000 days of war. Taking part in the gathering were members of the General Staff forum, division commanders, and additional commanders from across all branches of the IDF.

The event opened with a moment of silence in memory of fallen IDF soldiers and those harmed in the war, followed by a recording of the communications order given by Col. Asaf Hamami, of blessed memory, commander of the Southern Brigade at the start of the October 7 attack. Hamami was the first senior officer to declare that a war was underway. He was killed in battle with terrorists, his body was taken to Gaza, and it was returned in the hostage return deal about seven months ago.

At the start of his remarks, the chief of staff told the commanders: "These days, we are at a significant strategic crossroads in the campaign. One thousand days and one thousand nights in which we have been fighting in one of the longest, most complex, and most demanding campaigns we have ever known. Battlefield leadership, decision-making, command, and the bravery of the fighters on the front lines, under fire and at the most difficult decision points — these are what led the IDF to victory in every arena. There is operational and command experience here unlike anything the IDF has had since its founding. We are committed to our soldiers, to the security of the State of Israel, and to the security of the people of Israel."

Zamir stressed that the events of October 7 continue to shape the army’s activity even now: "The October 7 attack was an attack on the very existence of the Jewish people. We remember the fallen, their heroism, and their families, and alongside them those wounded in body and soul. That memory obligates us to keep changing, to keep moving forward, and to draw and implement lessons in the regional race to learn."

The chief of staff added that the fighting has led to major changes in the IDF’s operational concepts: "This war changed the methods of combat, the operational concepts, and the way we act. We remember, we learn, and we are preparing for the continuation of the fighting and for the many challenges still ahead of us."

Toward the end of his remarks, he addressed the public’s expectations of the IDF and said, "The eyes of Israel’s citizens are on us — with criticism, with appreciation, and with great love. We are committed to continuing and deepening our achievements, while also serving as a beacon of truth, humility, professionalism, and responsibility."
