A California court sentenced 53-year-old Loay Abdel Fattah Alnaji to one year in prison and two years of probation after he admitted to and was convicted in the killing of 69-year-old Jewish demonstrator Paul Kessler in the Los Angeles area in November 2023. That was reported today (Wednesday) by Arutz 7.

The defendant and Kessler, who was killed, confronted each other during parallel demonstrations for and against Israel. During the confrontation, Alnaji struck Kessler in the head with a megaphone, causing him to fall. Kessler suffered a severe head injury and was taken to a local hospital, where doctors were forced to pronounce him dead.

After Alnaji admitted to the act, the court convicted him of "involuntary manslaughter." Jewish organizations criticized the leniency of the sentence: "The message being sent is that it is possible to get away with attacking a person in broad daylight בגלל disagreement with his views, especially when it comes to Israel."
