At this hour, thousands are participating in the rabbi’s funeral procession at the cemetery in the city’s Shikun Vatikim neighborhood, as Israel Police maintain a major presence at the scene and are securing the event.
Earlier today, a gag order was issued and will remain in effect until July 7, 2026. At the same time, the investigation into the circumstances of the murder is continuing, led by the Sharon Serious Crime Unit in the Central District.
After the report of the murder was received, Central District Commander ניצב אמיר כהן arrived at the scene and conducted a situational assessment. During that discussion, it was decided to assign the investigation to the Sharon Serious Crime Unit. Police said that the district commander "expressed deep shock over the incident, alongside condolences to the rabbi’s family and his many students."
Following investigative activity and the manhunt carried out by detectives from the Netanya station and officers from the Sharon Serious Crime Unit, the suspect was arrested — a Netanya resident in his 30s. After being questioned, the suspect was brought before the Magistrate’s Court in Petah Tikva, which accepted the police request and extended his detention until July 8, 2026. Police emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing.
At the same time as the court proceedings, the rabbi’s funeral procession was held in Netanya, drawing thousands of people. Central District police officers, led by the Netanya station, are working to secure the funeral, protect public safety and public order, and direct traffic in the area.
Because of the large turnout, Degania Street, HaRav Neria Street, and the cemetery parking lot have been closed to traffic, and police warned of heavy congestion in the area. The public was asked to avoid coming to the site unless necessary and to prepare accordingly for the temporary traffic arrangements.
