Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone on Friday, during which Netanyahu congratulated the American president on the 250th anniversary of the country’s Independence Day. The Prime Minister’s Office said that during the call, the two leaders agreed to meet soon.
According to the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu expressed to Trump his appreciation for the close alliance between the two countries, noting that it is “a strategic asset of the highest order” for Israel. The prime minister also told the president that the United States serves as a true guarantor of global freedom, and added that Israel greatly values the deep partnership and close bond that have been built between the two countries over the years.
Meanwhile, Trump revealed additional details about the planned meeting. In an interview with Axios, Trump addressed his relationship with the prime minister and said: “We get along very good. He knows who the boss is.”
Trump also addressed developments regarding Iran and the funeral of Iran’s former leader, Ali Khamenei. He claimed that the Iranians are “begging for a deal,” and added that the sides had decided to take a one week break in the talks until the mourning events were over, while committing not to open fire during that period. Later, the American president added: “They are all there at the funeral. One shot and we could take them all out, but we won’t do that because then we would have no one to negotiate with.”
