The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on June 25 has risen to 3,342, authorities confirmed. Official figures show 16,470 people sustained injuries of varying severity, while 17,345 residents have been left homeless, many sheltering in temporary reception centers, open spaces, or with relatives as humanitarian organizations work to meet the scale of the need.

The La Guaira region has been identified as the hardest-hit area, suffering heavy structural destruction and widespread infrastructure collapse. Rescue teams, medical units, and forensic identification crews continue to operate there, though the pace of work has slowed amid the scale of devastation. More than 150 unidentified bodies have already been buried in a cemetery in the city of La Guaira, a figure that reflects both the extraordinary death toll and the difficulty authorities face in returning victims to their families.

Search and rescue operations remain active across the disaster zone. Specially trained dogs certified to detect human scent have spent days combing through the rubble of nearly 200 collapsed buildings, with emergency crews working around the clock in hopes of finding survivors still trapped beneath the debris. Authorities fear the death toll will continue to rise as operations expand into areas not yet fully assessed.

Families across the region are still searching for missing relatives amid widespread shortages of shelter, medical supplies, food, water, and functioning infrastructure. Venezuelan authorities are coordinating with international humanitarian organizations as the country manages a national emergency on multiple fronts: caring for thousands of injured, housing tens of thousands of displaced residents, identifying victims, and beginning the reconstruction of communities that suffered near-total destruction.
