Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani told the Reuters news agency today (Sunday) that the Syrian government expects to resume negotiations with Israel soon. He said Syria is interested in reaching a security agreement, after contacts between the sides were cut off following Israel’s strike on a Syrian Air Force base.

According to al-Shibani, “Syria does not currently trust Israel, and its top priority is to stop the Israeli strikes. At the same time, Syria is extending its hand for diplomacy and calling on Israel to seize the historic opportunity facing both countries.”

As a reminder, with the support of Turkey, Qatar, and other Arab countries, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli strikes, describing them as “unjustified aggression and a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is a dangerous escalation that threatens security and stability in the region.”
