כ״ץ (Photo: Oren Ben Hakoon, Flash90)Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz commented today (Monday) on the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as funeral ceremonies were taking place in Tehran, stating that Israel would continue to act against any existential threat emerging from the Iranian leadership. At the same time, Israel's security establishment is closely monitoring developments in the Iranian capital, assessing the political and security implications of the funeral and preparing for the possibility that the confrontation between the two countries could resume.
In a statement, Katz said: "Ayatollah Khamenei, whose funeral is taking place now, was eliminated by Israel because he initiated and led Iran's plan to destroy Israel and destabilize the region. The one who sought destruction has himself been destroyed. Any Iranian leader who again attempts to advance plans for Israel's destruction will likewise be eliminated. The chants of 'Death to Trump' during the funeral are disgraceful and reveal the true nature of the ayatollahs' regime, beyond its displays of diplomacy and smiles."
He added: "The powerful strike against Iran, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, removed the immediate existential threats facing Israel and dealt a severe blow to Iran's strategic capabilities. Israel is prepared to defend itself, by itself, at any time and against any threat."
Israeli security officials are also monitoring the influx of visitors to Tehran, where leaders and senior figures from various terrorist organizations have reportedly arrived to attend the funeral. Mojtaba Khamenei, who was seriously wounded in the targeted operation in which his father was killed, did not attend the ceremony due to concerns for his personal safety.
In light of these developments, the Israel Defense Forces continue to prepare for the possibility of renewed hostilities with Iran, or for a scenario in which concrete intelligence indicates activity posing a threat to Israel's civilian population that would require an immediate response.
As part of these preparations, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir reviews and updates operational plans for both defensive and offensive scenarios on a weekly basis. Meanwhile, the Military Intelligence Directorate continues to expand its target bank and update existing operational targets.
