The facility, considered Russia's largest oil refinery, was reportedly hit by drones, sparking a massive fire. The strike was one of Ukraine's deepest long-range attacks since the war began, targeting a site approximately 3,000 kilometers (1,865 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
Located in southwestern Siberia, the Omsk refinery is a key part of Russia's energy infrastructure, processing more than 21 million tons of oil annually.
The attack comes just four days after Ukraine struck another major Russian refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region. That facility processes about 17 million tons of crude oil each year. Both strikes are part of Ukraine's ongoing campaign against Russian energy infrastructure.
As previously reported, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukrainian cities over the past week, particularly targeting the capital, Kyiv. More than 35 civilians have been killed and dozens more wounded, according to reports.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the war today during a conversation with reporters. Trump said he had recently spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Trump, "Putin is indeed feeling pressure. We had a very good conversation. He wants to end it. We'll see if we can end this. We are closer to a solution than people think."
