According to reports, the strikes were carried out using missiles launched from U.S. naval vessels. The targets included missile launch systems, air defense batteries, and boats belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Earlier in the day, Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported that three ballistic missiles fired from Iran struck a U.S. military base near the Port of Kuwait. U.S. officials reported eight explosions at the military installation in the town of Hadatha.
Meanwhile, reports also emerged that an Iranian force attacked a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to the ship.
As the attacks unfolded, Ali Khodarian, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, issued a statement regarding the regional situation. He claimed that Iran intends to administer the Strait of Hormuz independently, regardless of cooperation with neighboring countries.
"Iran will manage the Strait of Hormuz, with or without Oman," Khodarian said, adding that the strategic waterway had been closed to maritime traffic.
Earlier in the day, Iranian officials had issued a similar declaration. U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed the claim, saying, "The strait is open. We bombed them very hard last night. They are very, very bad and sick people."
